Chicagoland 08 FAQ: Ministry

Where will I be housed?

During the initial week of training, all missionaries will be staying at Northern Illinois University.  Housing will vary during the following two weeks based upon the area of Chicago that your team is ministering to, and will include schools, churches, and church members' homes.  Accommodations will be very basic.

What type of food will be served?

During training, you will eat in the dining hall of the university.  During the following two weeks, a continental breakfast will be served every morning, and a sack lunch will be given to you before you depart to teach your 5-Day Clubs.  You will be given an allowance for dinner, and you and your team may eat at a location of your choice.

What types of ministry opportunities will I participate in during Chicagoland '08?

Your primary ministry will be to teach 5-Day Clubs, and in doing so to evangelize children who have never before heard the Gospel (some have never even heard of God).  You will also participate in church presentations in some way, as well as a children's rally at the end of each week.

Certified teacher trainers may be involved in teaching church members how to lead a child to Christ, and in giving instruction during evening Good News Club training sessions that will be held for members of our partnering churches each weekday evening.  Others may have opportunities to assist teacher trainers during classes.

What types of leadership/supervision will there be?

You will be assigned to a team comprised of five individuals, one of which will be an adult leader who will provide guidance and leadership to your team.  Your team will also be a part of a group which will be made up of approximately four other teams in addition to your own.  Groups will be led by experienced CEF ministry leaders, including CEF World Headquarters staff members, state directors and local directors.

What will be done to ensure that I am as safe as possible?

Part of the initial four-day training will include instruction from the Chicago Police Department.  Through an established program known as Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS), you will learn about the best ways to remain safe in the Chicago area.  The Chicago Police Department will also be informed of your club locations and will be patrolling those areas from time to time.  Also, under no circumstances will any club be held after daylight hours.
