Will I need to bring
any teaching materials with me?
Most of our teams will be using this summer's 5-Day Club
kit. Each team should have a minimum of
two kits so if you have one, please do bring it. Specialized teams serving in urban areas will
use a new 5-Day Club kit called "Truth
Chasers" that will be provided.
What will I learn during the initial four-day training period?
Much of the training will be
focused specifically on preparing for ministry in the urban setting of Chicago. In addition to the CAPS program, you will learn
things such as non-violent intervention, how to gather children for a club, how
to adjust your club program to the needs of inner-city children, specific needs
that these children might have, family life in the urban area, and tips on how
to make your clubs extra-special and exciting for these children. Instruction will also be given in how to
present your ministry to the churches that you will be working alongside each
week.
Training will not cover how to teach a 5-Day Club,
how to lead a child to Christ, or anything else that you would have learned
during other CEF ministry training; all Chicagoland missionaries are expected
to have already received TCE, CYIA, or Super-Seminar Training.
Is there any additional recommended training that would help to prepare
me for this ministry experience?
Though not required, if you
would like some additional training, you are encouraged to come to CEF’s
International Conference May 1-4 and to attend a pre-conference session
entitled, “Urban, The World in Your City,” and a session during conference that
demonstrates a special 5-Day Club series called “Truth Chasers.” For more information, or to register for the
conference, go to www.cefconferences.com
