The Process of the Ministry Staffing Program

Application
Those interested in the
Ministry Staffing Program will apply to work in CEF and be hired by the CEF World
Headquarters. The application process includes reference checks, Child
Protection Policy background checks, pre-screening, interviews and finally
hiring. All Ministry Staffing Program candidates are employees of World
Headquarters (CEF Inc.).
Sponsorship
During the hiring process, a candidate can either be sponsored
or non-sponsored. Sponsorship simply means that a CEF state, local
chapter or International Ministries agrees to place the missionary in
their state, local chapter or country once the ministry preparation is
complete. For example: Florida can send a missionary candidate through
the MSP with the understanding that the missionary will return to
Florida for actual placement.
Ministry Preparation
There are basic ministry
preparation components that all CEF missionaries must complete including
candidate school, support-raising, a year of Bible training or equivalent, the
Children's Ministries Institute® 12 week diploma program, field internship, and other assignments. The Fast Track to
Missions
program has additional requirements, including a World Headquarters
internship, two summer ministry assignments and additional assignments
including required reading. There are also additional requirements for
missionaries preparing to serve internationally including Missionary
Training School as well as language and cultural adaptation training.
Each missionary candidate will
also work with his ministry preparation coach through each ministry
preparation step to identify strengths that can be further developed and weaknesses that need to be addressed in
order for the candidate's ministry
to be as effective as possible. Each
candidate will then work with his or her coach to design and work
through a customized ministry
preparation plan that will help to help him or her grow in the
identified areas. This results in missionaries adequately prepared to
begin serving on the mission field.
Field Placement
Upon completion of support raising and other ministry preparation steps, the missionary is
ready for work on the field. If sponsored, the missionary will go to the sponsoring
state, local chapter or international ministries. For non-sponsored candidates,
the Human Resources Department will work with USA Ministries or International
Ministries and the candidate to find a suitable placement.
The placement decision will be made as early as possible
in the ministry preparation process so that the process can be customized with
the final placement in mind. Current
missionaries coming into the program will return to their previous field of
service.
Once placed, the missionary will report directly to the field leadership
(the local director and/or
state director) for day-to-day ministry supervision, including:
- Primary ministry coordination and supervision
- Performance evaluations
- Ministry statistics
- Primary ministry budgets
USA or International Ministries will maintain administrative supervision over:
- Payroll
- Sick days
- Benefits
- Personal ministry expenses
