How do we know the Bible is true?

-Adapted from an article by Bryant Wood

The perfect and amazing design we see in the world around us is one huge way we know God’s Word is true. The Bible says God created the heavens and the earth. It’s true-our universe is so complex and wonderful only God could do it. God himself says His Word is His message to mankind. The statement “This is what the Lord says…”is common in the Bible. God’s Word is presented as a historical story-record of how He has interacted with people.

Many facts in the Bible have been proven by science and history as true. One of the most impressive ways God proves His Word is through the prophecies that have some true. Deuteronomy 18:22 says: “If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken” (see also Ezekiel 33:30-33). We have lots of evidence that what God has said about certain people, cities, nations and most importantly Jesus our Savior, has come true.

Finally, the truth of God’s Word can be seen in people like you and me. As we follow Jesus  and let Him change us we see that God’s Word is different from any other book: it’s alive and true. The Bible shows us our sin, teaches us what’s right, changes our hearts and helps us grow in Christ (2 Timothy 3:16, Hebrews 4:12)!
