Big Picture

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

1 Timothy 4:12

The investment made in the spiritual lives of children does not end when those children transition into their early teen years. Junior Youth Challenge® is a global ministry all about discovering what the Bible says and how it applies to the life of a teen. Students age 11-15 receive the tools necessary to live out their faith anywhere, in any situation, no matter who’s watching. JYC™ bridges the gap between Good News Club® and the Christian Youth In Action® program and encourages young people to go on to serve in the Child Evangelism Fellowship® ministry.

Shining the Light in Middle School

When the home-based Good News Club®, which included elementary and middle school kids from the neighborhood, returned to the elementary school, the middle school kids stopped attending. God stirred thirteen-year-old Elijah’s heart to arrange to get a student-led Bible club started in his middle school. Elijah had faithfully attended Good News Club, 5-Day Club®, and completed the Go and Tell! training. God had prepared him for this next step!

Elijah secured permission to use the Black Hawk Middle School social studies classroom where the after-school Bible club would meet. Elijah determined the best day of the week for the club, and then he walked through the school hallways with a sign-up sheet, asking his peers to sign up if they were interested in attending the after-school Bible club. Elijah led a group of seven peers through the book of Romans on Wednesday afternoons!

The following school year, Elijah transferred to high school. He would no longer be on the middle school campus to let his light shine, but he had prepared the way for a Junior Youth Challenge® club to be launched at the middle school he had attended!

Junior Youth Challenge is an evangelistic and discipleship ministry for young people ages 11-14. This ministry bridges the gap between Good News Club and the Christian Youth In Action® program and encourages young people to go on to serve in Child Evangelism Fellowship® ministry by teaching 5-Day Clubs during the summer.

God has blessed during the first year of the JYC™ club at Black Hawk Middle School. Twelve young people have attended the club. Two have made a profession of faith in Christ. Each one is growing in their understanding of God and His Word.
