ST. LOUIS For more than two decades, Child Evangelism Fellowship® (CEF) Good News Spectaculars have offered thousands of children and families across North Carolina a day of fun and ministry.

These fall events have grown into a nationwide outreach. Some CEF chapters across the country are hosting their own Good News Spectaculars. CEF chapters in communities across the country are also reaching children and families through a variety of events in partnership with churches.

“The CEF Good News Spectacular began as a day of fun and ministry and has grown into an annual tradition. Families who once attended are now returning to serve and share the same Good News that impacted them years ago,” said Bob Fowler, State Director, CEF of North Carolina.

“This family fun day features something for everyone — a wide variety of inflatables, games, live stage entertainment, puppets and refreshments — all at no cost. Children love the giant slides, bounce houses, bungee run, and the exciting obstacle course. There are free snow cones, popcorn, and drinks — plus plenty of smiles and laughter throughout the day.

“Most importantly, everyone has the opportunity to hear ‘The Greatest Story Ever Told’ when they visit ‘The Wordless Book area and hear the Good News of Jesus Christ,” Fowler said.

Six major cities in North Carolina host the Spectacular in large venues. During two Spectaculars held this summer, there were 48 decisions for Christ with over 300 volunteers serving to share Jesus with 3,000 people.

Fowler helped CEF Siouxland (in Iowa) start its own Good News Spectacular. That chapter now helps other chapters across Iowa host these outreach events. He also helped CEF of Greenville (in South Carolina) launch their own Good News Spectacular, extending the impact of CEF in that state.

CEF Fair Ministry

In addition to the Good News Spectacular, CEF outreach efforts include local and state fairs all over the country, hosting booths to share the Gospel and offer free face painting.

Workers paint children’s faces with the colors of “The Wordless Book” to easily explain the story of salvation. This summer, volunteers with CEF of Montana were able to share the Gospel with 3,700 people at the Billings Fair.

The vendor right next to CEF of Greater Portland (in Oregon) had been listening to them share the Gospel with children and noted that it was the simplest and best Gospel presentation that he had heard in a very long time.

“CEF never stops thinking about ways to reach children with the best news of their lives,” said CEF Vice President of Administration, Fred Pry. “When something works, like the Good News Spectacular or free face painting, we want to see that it serves as many kids as possible.”
