The Devil Keeps Scaring Me at Night. I’m Afraid to Sleep by Myself, so I Leave the Light on. Can You Help Me?

-Wally Grant If Jesus is your Savior, He wants to help you get over your fear. As a child of God you can depend on Him for help whenever you are afraid.
When you go to bed at night remember you are never alone. Jesus is always with you to comfort and protect you-even in the dark. He loves in your heart by God’s Holy Spirit. Jesus is much greater and more powerful than the devil so trust Him for courage. Talk to God when you’re scared. Admit you’re afraid and ask for help. Choose one of the truths from the Bible below and make it your prayer:
  • When I am afraid, I will trust in you. (Ps. 56:3)
  • I will fear no evil, for you are with me. (Ps. 23:4)
  • The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. (Heb. 13:6)
Here is an example of a prayer from Psalm 4:8: “Dear Lord, I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord made me dwell in safety. In Jesus’ name, Amen.” You can also keep away fear by thinking good thoughts (Phil. 4:8). Don’t watch scary movies before bed; instead sing a song about Jesus or read a Bible story. Picture yourself wearing the whole armor of god. (See Eph. 6.) Whenever you pray, quote God’s Word and think good thoughts, you are obeying James 4:7, a verse that comes with a wonderful promise: “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” The more you depend on God, the less the devil will come around to scare you.
