Sharing the Attributes of God for Kids
What do you think when you hear the name “John”? It’s a popular name, so you may think of someone famous, or maybe a friend, or someone in your family. Names are important and powerful because they remind us of the people in our lives, what they’re like, and how they’ve influenced us.
What do you think when you hear the name “God”? What comes to mind then? Maybe when you hear God’s name you’re reminded of how He is the Creator, that He is always with you, and that He is in control. But what about the kids in your life? What do they think about when they hear God’s name? What attributes of God do they know? Here are four fun ways you can help teach the attributes of God for kids so that, when they think of Him, they smile and know that they are loved.
Use a Game to Share the Attributes of God for Kids
The first way you can help teach the attributes of God for kids is by playing a game. Whenever you’re driving kids to school or to an activity, play a game of “I-Spy: Creation Edition”, which is I-Spy, but with a focus on God’s attribute as our Creator. Start out the game by saying something like “I see something God made that’s fluffy”, then have the kids guess or give additional clues and hints until they spy it too. After they spy it, you can say something simple like “wasn’t God so creative when he made snowflakes to have their own special design?” or “orange is my favorite color God made.” Adding comments like these can help kids remember to see God as the Creator in their daily lives, which is an important attribute of God for kids to hold close.
Create an Attributes of God Tracker
Another fun way to teach the attributes of God for kids is by making an Attribute Tracker. To start, create a chart on a computer or decorate a poster with the kids, with empty columns for the different attributes of God for kids, such as holy, faithful, just, or merciful. Next, challenge the kids to slowly write down in the columns where they find these attributes of God in the Bible as they do their daily Bible reading or devotions.
You can set a goal for how many attributes the kids can find in a week or month that’s personal to the kids’ schedule and their reading level. Just remember to periodically look over the trackers to see all the different attributes of God the kids have found and talk with them about what they learned. Ask them how God’s character applies to their life, then lead them in a prayer thanking God for who He is. Don’t forget to get involved too by doing your own chart and hanging them in an open area of your home!
Sings Songs About the Attributes of God for Kids
Have you ever remembered lyrics to a song you haven’t heard in years? Things put to music are much easier to remember and kids love singing, which is why another brilliant way to share the attributes of God for kids in a lasting way is to sing songs about His character.
𝘜-𝘕𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘛𝘝® has lots of fun songs and music videos available for you to listen to and watch with kids. Some favorite songs that teach God’s character are “Jesus Is Caring for You,” the verse song for Psalm 86:15, “Merciful Gracious,” and “His Name Is Jesus.” You can find these song videos at cefonline.com/unite, on our 𝘜-𝘕𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘛𝘝® app, or on the 𝘜-𝘕𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘛𝘝 Youtube channel. After listening, take time to talk with kids about the songs you sing and explain any concepts they may not understand. You can even come up with some fun hand-motions or actions to do with the song to make the attributes of God for kids even easier to learn.
Host an Attributes of God Movie Night
Last but not least, help share the attributes of God for kids the fun way by watching videos that highlight God’s character. Nowadays kids have many entertainment options vying for their attention, but not all content is helpful or safe for kids to consume. U-Nite TV is a safe platform where kids can watch fun videos that teach about God for free and in the comfort of your home or classroom. Make a mini-movie day out of it with some blankets and snacks, and snuggle in to learn all about God together! U-Nite TV offers several seasons of Good News Club TV™ videos that bring to life awesome Bible stories and teach the attributes of God for kids.
Sometimes, with how big God is, it’s easy to fall into the trap of taking things too seriously. But God is the original Creator of fun and humor, so we want learning about Him to be not only an impactful experience for kids, but a delight! Use these four ways to make learning about His character and the attributes of God for kids a joyful experience.
