ST. LOUIS Sunday school is a vital time when children learn more about God, themselves, and their place in the world and among the church body. With over 85 years of experience in ministering to children all over the USA and around the world, Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) developed their Sunday School Solutions to equip Sunday school teachers in their ministry.

Many people who would make great teachers often hold back because they’re not sure about what to do or how to do it,” says CEF Acting Vice President of Administration Fred Pry.

“That’s why CEF has created a unique resource, Sunday School Solutions. It equips teachers, provides resources and makes Sunday school a welcoming adventure for teachers and children alike.

CEF supports Sunday School in its disciple-making role.

Fellowship

Sunday school provides in-person interaction for children. Nothing can replace the joy that comes when kids share with their peers. Fellowship is about more than just visiting with each other; it’s about discussing how to apply biblical truths to everyday living and growing in faith It’s about digging deeper on a personal level — together and with God. Sunday school helps make the reality of the Gospel and a personal relationship with Jesus tangible to children in a relatable, age-appropriate way.

Prayer

An important aspect of fellowship is praying for each other. Sunday school classes allow smaller groups of children to share on a more personal level if they wish. When a child has peers and a teacher that prays for them personally, they feel that other people in the body of Christ care about them. This also teaches them just how much God cares for them. Sunday school is where children can become comfortable leading in prayer and praying out loud in front of others.

Service

Fellowship is about being part of God’s work. This can include class ministry projects like a food pantry, senior home visits, and learning to use their spiritual gifts. Sunday school helps strengthen children’s commitment to one another. When someone has a need, we pitch in. When someone in Sunday school class is absent, we ask if they’re okay. In Sunday school, children can be a valued and important member of Christ’s body.

Learning How to Teach

CEF also trains adult Sunday school teachers locally and online. Every Sunday school teacher who has been trained gains confidence and knowledge to prepare lessons for both saved and unsaved children.

“Whether you’re a children’s church worker, a seasoned Sunday School teacher, a small group leader for Vacation Bible School, or a new volunteer in any children’s ministry, CEF can help you with the mysteries and dilemmas that come up while working with kids,” Pry says.

CEF’s Sunday School Solutions series has videos along with an accompanying article for each lesson.
