ST. LOUIS — Since 1937, Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) has been dedicated to sharing the Good News of Jesus with children worldwide.
As part of this mission, CEF Military Children’s Ministry is focused on serving the 1.6 million children whose parents serve in the U.S armed forces.
CEF recently expanded its outreach to Space Force bases and a Coast Guard station, and now ministers to families across all six branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. The Military Children’s Ministry currently serves young people on 34 installations with plans underway to reach an additional 29 military communities.
“God has opened the doors for CEF to minister on active-duty military installations for every branch of the armed forces,” said Andy Bunn, Director of CEF Military Children’s Ministry. “We celebrate God’s amazing work, while continuing to pray for the teams serving there, and ask Him to provide even more opportunities to reach the children of military families.”
Lynn Kuitems is the Local Director at CEF Atlantic Cape, near Training Center Cape May, a Coast Guard station. She says these young people living at the station face unique challenges compared to their civilian peers.
“Military children frequently experience compounded transitions,” shared Lynn. “This means regular instances of changing schools, homes, friends, churches and even climates. And while these transitions can be stressful for the entire family, they are particularly so for children.”
One avenue for ministering to these young people is Good News Club®, a weekly program for children ages 5-12 that features a Bible lesson, songs, memory verses and fun games. These clubs are held in a home or school in a military neighborhood, enabling parents and children to connect with other families, fostering a community spirit and encouraging them to grow in their relationship with God.
“Sometimes children’s emotional needs are hard to meet when parents are also in transition,” remarked Lynn. “These families need support and a loving structure that they can connect to safely. A Good News Club is the perfect environment to meet those needs. When the adults and children in the family are involved in a club, it gives the children an oasis of calm in the midst of the changes in their lives.”
CEF Military Children’s Ministry often offers 5-Day Club®, a week-long summer program for kids.
Hosted right in their area, a 5-Day Club is easy for a child to access during their summer break. Teachers are trained and equipped to lead the action-packed event, delivering the timeless truths of the Bible in exciting, engaging ways, which can lead to their participation in a Good News Club.
Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF), which was founded 88 years ago, has been establishing the Good News Club® in countries around the world for decades. Clubs are thriving worldwide, in countries including Australia, Cambodia, Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uganda and many more.
In 2024, through the combined ministries of CEF, more than 31 million children worldwide were impacted for Christ. More than 533,000 teachers were trained around the world to reach children.
